Memorial for transgender teen who committed suicide is tonight in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Area PFLAG, Mahoning Valley Pride Center, and First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown will have a vigil for Leelah Alcorn, the Ohio transgender teen who committed suicide due to lack of acceptance by her family and a feeling that life would not "get better" for her, at 6 p.m. tonight in front of First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1101 Elm St.

In case of severe weather, participants are to enter through the side door of the church on Illinois Avenue, and the memorial will be inside.
