Hearings continue

YOUNGSTOWN

Hearings are expected to continue today at the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center after a gas leak forced an evacuation of the court part of the building on East Scott Street about 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters and crews from Dominion East Ohio Gas were called because of a strong odor of natural gas, but after a search, the source of the odor could not be found, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV.

The television station reported the odor may have come from outside the building.

Found guilty

YOUNGSTOWN

A jury found a Canfield man guilty of burglary Wednesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for stealing drugs and other items from an Austintown man in October.

Ryan Gibson, 23, will be sentenced March 11 by Judge Shirley Christian. Gibson was found guilty after a trial that took about two days.

Assistant Prosecutor Nick Brevetta said Gibson entered a man’s Compass West apartment Oct. 14 and took the man’s marijuana, money and a video-game system.

He originally was charged with aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery, but jurors found him guilty of the burglary charge.

Brevetta said he will ask for the maximum eight years in prison at the sentencing.

Suspect found

STRUTHERS

A Youngstown man wanted on three domestic-violence warrants from municipal court was found hiding in a home about 2 p.m. Tuesday.

U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force members were looking for Justin Secre, 28. When they pulled up to the home, they saw him and his girlfriend outside. Reports said Secre and his girlfriend then quickly went back inside the home.

Police knocked on the door several times but no one would come out, so they went in. Several people inside denied that Secre was in the home, reports said. Secre was found hiding in a cubbyhole in an upstairs bedroom and taken into custody at gunpoint.

He was taken to the Mahoning County jail. Reports did not name what street the home is on.
