Authorities investigating woman struck and killed in Liberty

LIBERTY — A Girard woman walking along state Route 193 was killed when she was struck by a vehicle at 10:39 p.m. Wednesday.

Amy Huffman, 45, was walking on the southbound side of the road when a southbound pickup truck driven by Ryan M. Tolone, 28, of Girard, struck her.

Tolone, a corrections officer with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, was not injured and was released to family. Huffman was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation by the Southington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The Liberty Township Police Department, emergency medical services and fire department assisted with identification of the victim, patient care and traffic direction.
