Teacher resigns

CAMPBELL

The city school board approved at its Tuesday meeting the resignation of a teacher.

The resignation of Shannon Pavlansky-Wojtowicz is effective immediately. She was assigned to Memorial High School and began her employment with the district in 2009. She was placed on unpaid leave Monday, pending an investigation.

“As a public employer, Campbell City Schools must follow the appropriate procedures in the investigation of allegations of misconduct by a staff member,” Superintendent Matthew Bowen said in a news release. “We do not rush to judgment or cater to rumors.”

Life sentence

WARREN

Michael A. Hanick, 58, of Clearfield Avenue in Weathersfield Township, was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with parole eligibility after 10 years for raping two girls in 2012, 2013 and 2014 at his home.

He pleaded guilty in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to four rape counts, including two that carried a possible life prison sentence. He raped an 11-year-old girl twice in 2014 and a girl 12 to 13 years old in 2012 and 2013, said Diane Barber, assistant Trumbull County prosecutor.

Weathersfield police investigated after Trumbull County Children Services reported that one of the victims told agency personnel about them.

Hanick received his sentence from Judge Andrew Logan.
