Police found materials for making methamphetamine in a West Akron-Canfield Road hotel Monday while serving a warrant.

A report from the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the hotel in Canfield Township about 3:40 p.m. to assist U.S. marshals serving a warrant on 28-year-old Nathan Steer of state Route 62 in Damascus on a felony drug charge.

They found materials to make the drug inside a hotel room at 7815 West Akron-Canfield Road where they found Steer and 31-year-old Fallon Barnett, also of state Route 62 in Damascus.

Reports said Barnett is Steer’s girlfriend but she had lied to marshals looking for Steer several times as to where he was.

Steer gave consent to search the room, and several chemicals and equipment used to make methamphetamine, along with an electric skillet and a gas generator were found.

A Portage County sheriff’s deputy who is a member of the Portage County Drug Task Force was called to assist with collecting the evidence and cleanup, reports said.

Steer was taken to the Mahoning County jail on a charge of illegal assembly of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs. Barnett also was booked into the jail on the same charge and an additional charge of obstruction of justice.
