Central Ohio fire destroys barn, kills 2 horses

NEW ALBANY, Ohio (AP) — Fire officials say an early morning fire in central Ohio has destroyed a barn and killed two animals.

Plain Township Assistant Fire Chief Jack Rupp says the barn fire began shortly after 3 a.m. today in New Albany, about 15 miles northeast of Columbus.

Rupp says two horses died in the fire, and a dog was slightly injured. The barn collapsed from the flames.

No residents were hurt.

Four area fire departments were called to assist Plain Township firefighters at the scene. Rupp says cold temperatures made containing the flames more difficult.

Investigators will be working today to determine how the fire began.
