Former Mahoning County sheriff's employee seeks release from probation

YOUNGSTOWN — Former Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Michael Budd has asked a federal judge to release him from his probation six months early.

In a letter addressed to U.S. District Court Judge Lesley Brooks Wells, Budd said he has completed all programs required of him on probation and also has a job.

Budd was released from federal prison in 2012 after serving a 97-month sentence for his conviction in 2005 for ordering the beating of a county jail inmate. He has already completed 30 months of probation. He was sentenced to three years’ probation after his prison sentence ended.
