2 Arizona law officers wounded in shootout; suspect dead

MORENCI, Ariz. (AP) — Two Arizona law enforcement officers are hospitalized after a shootout with a domestic-violence suspect in a small town near the New Mexico border.

Authorities say the suspect — 29-year-old Chris Ingram — later died of his wounds at a Morenci hospital.

They say Greenlee County sheriff's deputy Jon Mennen and Clifton police Sgt. Jason Mingura suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. They were being treated today at University Medical Center in Tucson.

County authorities say the officers were dispatched to a domestic-violence call about 11 p.m. Monday and exchanged gunfire with Ingram on U.S. Highway 191 in Morenci.

Details of the domestic-violence incident weren't immediately available.

As of 2010, the mining town of Morenci had a population of fewer than 1,500.

Mingura is a four-year veteran of the Clifton Police Department, while Mennen has been with the Greenlee County Sheriff's Office for eight months.
