Police looking for driver who killed NEO teacher

CLEVELAND (AP) — Police are trying to identify and locate the motorist who struck and killed a fifth-grade teacher while he was jogging in a Cleveland suburb.

The Shaker Heights police chief said today that 51-year-old James Caffrey was struck about 5:30 p.m. Saturday and was pronounced dead at a hospital. The vehicle was abandoned near where Caffrey was struck from behind. He taught in the Shaker Heights school district.

Media outlets have reported that police in a nearby suburb earlier tried to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation, but the driver drove off when the officer approached on foot. Police say the vehicle is registered to an East Cleveland resident.
