Cookies & Cocktails: Dough for a cause

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR — Above is just a glimpse of the colossal cookie collection that will await guests at the third annual Cookies & Cocktails fundraiser. The event features thousands of cookies and will take place Feb. 7 at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center to raise funds for exhibits and educational programs.

YOUNGSTOWN

Amateur and professional bakers will show off and share their creative confections at the third annual Cookie Table & Cocktails fundraiser, set for 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, 325 W. Federal St.

The cookie table will contain such goodies as mini-cannolis, assorted pizzelles, buckeyes, clothespins, nut kiffels, chocolate marshmallow brownies, caramel tarts and lemon tassies.

Bakers are still able to sign up. They will donate cookies and receive a ticket to the event. To register as a baker, visit www.mahoninghistory.org, where a form is available.

Tickets cost $45 per person and can be purchased by calling 330-743-2589.

Cookies will be judged and bakers will receive prizes in several categories, including Best Unexpected Ingredient and Best Twist on an Old Tradition. Upward of 4,000 cookies will be displayed. If guests have their fill of cookies at the event, carryout boxes will be available for them to take some home.

Jimmy McClellan and Rich Yocum will provide music, and a silent auction is scheduled.

The fundraiser’s title sponsor is The Waypoint Group of Morgan Stanley of Canfield. Other sponsors are WKBN, Covelli Enterprises, Rulli Brothers Markets and WYSU.

Proceeds benefit the history center, which is focusing on funding for exhibits and educational programming.
