POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent police activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

Jan. 16

Criminal damaging: A car in the 700 block of East Prospect Street was found with a flat tire that was thought to have been slashed.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Parkview Drive woman said her son took her 2014 Honda Civic without permission.

Jan. 17

Theft: A woman reported two missing packages that were to have been delivered to her Beechwood Drive home.

Assault: Police responded to a 911 call about a fight in the 900 block of North Avenue, where two men reported having been assaulted and injured.

Jan. 18

Aggravated menacing: Two South Davis Street residents told police that an intoxicated man pounded on their door and, once inside, refused to leave and threatened to spit on them.

Theft: An Xbox game system and related items, as well as boxes of various comic books, were removed from a residence in the 200 block of Dearborn Avenue.

Menacing: Officers answered a disturbance call in the 200 block of South Davis Street, where a woman said that a man had jumped in front of her vehicle and threatened her grandson.

Jan. 19

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone tried to enter a business in the 1100 block of South State Street. Two side windows had their wooden panels pried off.

Jan. 20

Theft: A $1,600 air-conditioning unit was stolen from a residence in the 1800 block of South State Street.

Menacing: A worker for a U.S. Route 422 animal clinic told police an irate man screamed at and threatened them regarding a payment policy.

LIBERTY

Jan. 16

Arrest: A traffic stop on state Route 193 resulted in 28-year-old Justin M. Pike’s arrest. Pike, of North Highland Avenue, Girard, was wanted on a warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court to face a theft charge.

Theft: Michael Zarlingo III, 53, of Market Street, Youngstown, was charged with stealing a 200-channel hand-held scanner worth $100 from Radio Shack in the Liberty Plaza.

Theft: A manager with Subway, 200 Goldie Road, noticed an undisclosed sum of money missing from a safe, and after having counted receipts from a recent deposit.

Arrest: Officers conducted a welfare check at a Motor Inn Drive motel before taking a 50-year-old Akron man into custody on a pending warrant.

Citation: Police on Trumbull Court handed a minor-misdemeanor citation to Louis A. Slepski of Northgate Avenue, Liberty, charging him with marijuana possession. The 33-year-old Slepski admitted having a small quantity of suspected marijuana, a report showed.

Arrest: Authorities were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to take custody of 32-year-old Jason C. Wilson of Vassar Avenue, Austintown. Wilson was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Fraud: A Youngstown man checking his account at a Belmont Avenue bank discovered several unauthorized automated-teller-machine withdrawals had been made that came to $650.

Arrest: Roger L. Fobes, 39, of Bouquet Avenue, Youngstown, was arrested at the Mahoning County jail on a city warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Theft: A woman reported her purse stolen while at a Belmont Avenue discount store.

Jan. 17

Aggravated menacing: A manager with a Belmont Avenue bank told authorities a 26-year-old Youngstown man returned and threatened to shoot the employees after an earlier incident in the drive-through in which he became angered after having been asked for two forms of identification to cash a check because he had no account there.

Counterfeit: A phony $20 bill was discovered at Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.

Domestic violence: Edward T. Mickel, 27, of Wirt Street, Youngstown, was charged with the crime after a woman alleged that while at a Belmont Avenue motel, Mickel had punched her head and dragged the accuser from a bed while striking her. The woman had an injury to her forehead that was bleeding, police said.

Arrest: Police responded to a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, then took into custody 27-year-old Linzey Bailey of East Valcourt Drive, Grove City, Pa., on a warrant charging burglary. Bailey, however, had not been charged in the theft at the time of the report.

Jan. 18

Arrest: Authorities responded to a man with a knife in the 4000 block of Belmont Avenue, where they charged 30-year-old Luis A. Santos of Holly Drive, Girard, with inducing panic and disorderly conduct. An investigation revealed that an intoxicated Santos had been at a nearby restaurant, where he grabbed a knife from the kitchen before chasing some employees and threatening to kill them, a report said.

Arrests: Joshua M. Scofinsky, 29, of Bouquet Avenue, Youngstown, and Jason R. Cannistra, 37, of Rosedale Road, Hubbard, were taken into custody during a traffic stop near Colonial Drive. Both were wanted on warrants, including a charge of misuse of a credit card.

Arrest: Police on Belmont Avenue took 36-year-old Katherine L. Tomko of Gladstone Street, Campbell, into custody after having pulled her over and charged her with obstructing official business and possession of drug paraphernalia. Tomko, who also was wanted on a warrant, had a straw with suspected drug residue and provided a false last name, a report showed.

Jan. 19

Theft: Someone in the 1000 block of Colonial Drive ransacked a vehicle and took $10 and a car-charging cord.

Breaking and entering: A woman in the 900 block of Colonial Drive discovered her sheds had been broken into. Items stolen included a minibike and a tool kit.

Arrest: Officers near Michigan Avenue pulled over 28-year-old Brittany N. Mountain of North Lipkey Road, North Jackson, and charged her with operating a vehicle impaired.

Jan. 20

Arrest: Police at Girard Municipal Court arrested Candis O. Bacher, 31, of Stewart Avenue, Youngstown, on a probation-violation charge.

Harassment: A Trumbull Court woman alleged a 28-year-old neighbor threatened to blow up her vehicle and slash its tires when the accuser refused to pick him up.

Possible identity fraud: An elderly Logan Way woman said she’s received at least 25 unwanted magazine subscriptions over a three-month period.

HUBBARD

Jan. 16

Arrest: Austintown police handed 42-year-old Ian O. Rudolph of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, to Hubbard authorities. He was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Scam: A member of a North Main Street church discovered what was likely a virus on the church’s computer with a message stating $450 was needed to unlock the computer and restore files.

Criminal damaging: A man in the 10 block of Maplegrove Avenue noticed a broken light on his vehicle.

Drugs: Police on North Main Street pulled over and issued a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 27-year-old Shannon K. Webb of Kenmore Avenue, Warren, with possession of drug paraphernalia after saying a suspected marijuana pipe was found.

Jan. 17

Arrest: Edward Hall, 70, of Lans-downe Boulevard, Youngstown, was charged with driving under suspension after police stopped his car on North Main Street.

Jan. 19

Arrest: A traffic stop near North Main Street resulted in the arrest of 61-year-old Thomas A. Thomas of Sharon-Hogue Road, Hubbard, who was wanted on a bench warrant accusing him of failing to comply with a court order.

Jan. 20

Counterfeit: A fake $20 bill was passed at Circle K, 211 W. Liberty St.
