Pelini guest speaker for Curbstone dinner

Youngstown State football coach Bo Pelini will be the featured speaker at the Curbstone Coaches’ annual football banquet Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at The Georgetown, 5945 South Ave.
The Curbstone Coaches will announce the winner of the 2014 Byrd Giampetro Scholarship Award, presented annually to an area high school football player.
Finalists for the $1,000 scholarship are: Joe Alessi (South Range), Joe Batcho (Champion), Mike Bell (Howland), Nick Ferguson (Mineral Ridge), Lucas Hitchcock (Jefferson), Cameron Ifft (McDonald), Chris Inskeep (Lowellville), Mark Schuler (Springfield), Brian Spence (Girard) and Adam Wollet (Poland).
Monday at noon, the Curbstone Coaches’ weekly luncheons continue at Lucianno’s Banquet Center in the Wedgewood Plaza in Austintown.
YSU assistant athletic director Robb Schmidt, who doubles as the radio play-by-play voice of the Penguins men’s basketball team, will be the guest speaker.
The Curbstone Coaches’ 48th annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is set for May 3 at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman. Youngstown native and former boxing champion Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini will be the featured speaker.
