BOARDMAN

Three men from Toledo face felony charges after township police said they used counterfeit money at an area business.

Raymond Armstrong, 55, Myron Haskins Jr., 25, and Lafoe White, 23, were arrested Friday on one misdemeanor charge each of obstructing official business and one charge each of criminal simulation and possession of criminal tools, both of which are fifth-degree felonies.

Township police responded to Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive, late Thursday after an employee reported that three men attempted to buy a printer-ink cartridge and a bottle of soda using counterfeit bills. The suspects reportedly gave the cashier five fake $10 bills.

When the cashier denied the purchase, the group left the store and fled the area.

Another officer on patrol then located the suspects’ vehicle at an area hotel, where he found the men in a room.

When police questioned Haskins, he said that White was his brother but that they didn’t know Armstrong. White told police they met Armstrong outside Walmart and asked him to buy printer-ink cartridges.

While searching the room, however, police found Armstrong hiding behind a closed bathroom door and learned that he also is from Toledo. They also found materials needed to make counterfeit money, and paper cut into the size of dollar bills.

After arresting the three, police found a suitcase that contained $1,300 in counterfeit $5, $10 and $20 bills.

The three were taken to the Mahoning County jail. They are scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court for an arraignment hearing Tuesday.
