YSU football adds more recruits

The Youngstown State football team added two more verbal commitments on Thursday: West Allegheny (Pa.) linebacker Armond Dellovade and Newark (Ohio) WR Darius Shackleford.

Dellovade (6-0, 220) had 136 tackles, six sacks and three interceptions in 11 games this season, according to the Beaver County Times. He led the Indians in tackles three of the last four years. Dellovade has also played running back, fullback and tight end.

Shackelford (6-4, 187) earned second team all-district honors this fall after racking up more than 500 yards receiving.

Ursuline-Mooney rescheduled for Feb. 13

Tonight’s boys basketball game between Ursuline and Cardinal Mooney has been postponed and rescheduled for Feb. 13 at Cardinal Mooney High School.

The two teams were originally scheduled to play earlier in the month, but had to cancel the meeting becaue of weather. A scheduling conflict has caused the two schools to push the make up date back once more.

They will play at Ursuline on Feb. 6 and then again the next week at Mooney.

Local schools reported for OHSAA infractions

The OHSAA imposed the following penalties against schools that violated OHSAA bylaws or sports regulations:

Wellsville High School had a student-athlete on the varsity football team transfer to the school last March whose family does not live in the school district and falsified information regarding the residence. The student is ineligible at Wellsville or any other high school for one year beginning Dec. 8, 2014.

Poland High School had four student-athletes on the freshman football team who will be ineligible for the first two regular season contests of the 2015 season.

Salem High School had a student-athlete in boys varsity basketball participate in a scrimmage as ineligible student-athletes. The school was reprimanded but no official forfeitures were required since they were scrimmages.

Local bowling club announces winners

Monica Metts won first place at the Youngstown-Salem 600 Club bowl four games throw out low score tournament that was held at Amron Lanes on Jan. 11.

Mary Berquist took second, Stephanie Clossin bowled a 300 and finished in third and Jan Schultz was awarded fourth place.

The club’s last singles tournament is at Boardman Lanes on March 8 at 1 p.m. Luncheon and meeting will follow the tournament. Entries can be found online at www.youngstown600club.com or at various lanes.

Figure skating duo leads US Championships

Alexa Scimeca and Christopher Knierim, who are engaged to be married, lead the pairs competition at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships after the short program.

They scored 74.01 points Thursday, a record for the event, to lead Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier by 5.63.
