Trial scheduled for Ohio man in Capitol terror plot
CINCINNATI (AP) — A federal judge has set a March 2 trial date for an Ohio man accused of plotting to attack the U.S. Capitol and kill federal officials and workers.
U.S. District Judge Sandra Beckwith in Cincinnati also today set a pretrial conference for Feb. 24. Her order came a day after 20-year-old Christopher Lee Cornell pleaded not guilty before a magistrate to three charges including attempted murder of U.S. officials and employees.
The trial could be postponed. Judge Beckwith also told both sides to begin discussions on a possible plea agreement as soon as practical.
Cornell was arrested Jan. 14. The FBI said in court documents that he planned to “wage jihad” by attacking the Capitol with pipe bombs and shooting government officials and employees. He is in jail without bond.
