FEEDER FRENZY

When: Sunday, 2-4 p.m.

What: Family-friendly bird count and refreshments inside the comfort of Visitors Center’s Bird Observatory. Tally birds at the feeders for Project Feeder Watch; discuss how everyone can participate in the upcoming Great Backyard Bird Count in February.

EXPLORERS

When: Next Thursday, 10-11:30 a.m.

What: Investigate food preferences and feeding behaviors of various bird species common at the Nature Center’s feeding station. Spend some time outside trying to feed birds by hand. Participants will spend time indoors and outdoors, so be appropriately prepared. Program takes place rain or shine.

Mandala Paper Craft

When: Jan.31, 1–3 p.m.

What: Learn about healing wholeness of circular forms that occur in nature. Just as petals form on a flower, one can create mandalas that induce calm and focus. Led by Karres Cvetkovich.

Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens

Details: Ages 8 and up.

Cost: $22 per guardian & child/pair; $15 adult.

ACOUSTIC JAM

When: Feb. 1, 2-4 p.m.

What: Bring an instrument or just come to listen. Beginners welcome. Make new friends, have fun and learn a new tune or two.

JEWELS OF WINTER

When: Tuesdays– Sundays, Feb. 1-March 15, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

What: Orchids are the jewels of the plant world; let them dazzle you with their brilliance and splendor. During heart of winter, find spirit of the tropics. Bring your camera, as there will be plenty of amazing flowers to photograph.

Orchid’s First Birthday

When: Feb. 5, 6:30- 8:30 p.m .

What: Becoming an orchid owner may seem daunting, but this class will ease fears and help you get your orchid to its first birthday and beyond. Dave Miller of Greater Akron Orchid Society will share ways to keep your orchid growing well in your home.
