UPDATE | No charges in Nov. 12 East High bus fatal accident

YOUNGSTOWN

No charges will be filed against the driver of a city school bus involved in an accident Nov. 12 where East High School freshman Faith McCullough-Wooster was killed.

The father of the freshman says he’s not surprised no charges will be filed against the bus driver.

“When the city investigates themselves, you don’t get any justice,” said Max McCullough.

His daughter, Faith, was killed Nov. 12.

“We’re going to press for an independent investigation,” McCullough said.

He said he has retained an attorney and expects to pursue legal action.

Lt. William Ross of the police department’s Accident Investigation Unit said all evidence gathered at the scene was given to City Prosecutor Dana Lantz and she decided charges were not necessary.

McCullough-Wooster was killed after witnesses said she was rolling down a hill on East High Avenue as the bus was heading west down the street. McCullough-Wooster stood up after she got to the bottom of the hill and the bus stopped. The bus then started again but McCullough-Wooster fell into the street and was struck by the back wheels of the bus and killed instantly.

Ross said investigators were waiting for the Ohio State Highway Patrol to confirm data from the school bus, which determined the driver was driving at a safe speed at the time of the accident and was not speeding or driving recklessly.
