UPDATE | Elderly man found dead on Youngstown's West Side

YOUNGSTOWN — Authorities say an 84-year-old man found dead early today inside his 1752 Oakwood Ave. home had several blunt force injuries to the back of his head.

An autopsy is expected to be performed on the man Thursday, said Mahoning County Foresnic Pathologist Dr. Joseph Ohr.

The man’s body was found about 5:30 a.m. after a newspaper carrier found the man’s door open and called police. The man’s car was also missing and was found later today in Cavalry Cemetery, covered in snow and abandoned.

His identity was being withheld until his relatives can be notified. His death is the first homicide of 2015 in Youngstown. The city had 19 homicides in 2014.
