BOARDMAN

Tracie Fellows’ Boardman home is full of bright vibrant colors, and oozes with creativity, from the walls of art (crayon art, photo art, etc.) to the hand-stitched accessories she makes.

When she was 8, her mother taught her to crochet. More than 20 years later, she’s parlayed that skill into a side business called Halo ‘n Stitches, named after several of her personal favorites: Halo is her 6-year-old daughter’s first name. Stitches comes from her favorite Disney TV show “Lilo and Stitch” and her love for literally stitching hats or “halos” for customers.

The side business has become a comfortable hobby that keeps her on her toes as she enjoys the challenge of creating accessories ordered by her customers.

Although it’s hard to name all the things she makes, among the top sellers are slouchy hats, headbands, “nappie” blankets, flower clips and animal-themed hats.

She has been slowly introducing the craft to Halo. The child hasn’t yet mastered the patience it takes to crochet, but she definitely knows what she likes: “I like the colors!” she exclaims before pulling out her own cross-stitch pattern she has tucked away in a box.

Over time, Fellows hopes she will likely pick up the crochet hook, become just as talented as her mom, and the tradition will continue.
