LOWELLVILLE

Lowellville schools, 52 Rocket Place, will host its first monthly luncheon for senior citizens at 11 a.m. on Jan. 28.

“The luncheon is designed to invite our long-standing supporters that may no longer have children in school to see how the school has evolved,” said Geno Thomas, superintendent of Lowellville schools.

The event is open to Lowellville senior citizens to eat lunch and take a student-led tour of the facilities at no cost. Thomas said that school administrators, teachers, and students are working together on coordinating the event.

“It’s a collaborative effort,” Thomas said.

On the tour, students will showcase the school’s programs and answer any questions. Thomas said the tour would show how public education has evolved, and the impact that technology has in the classroom.

The Lowellville Local Board of Education approved a “Bring Your Own Technology Policy” on Dec. 22. Students are allowed to bring their own personal devices or use the school’s technology for educational purposes. The school also invested in $60,000 in a lab for science, technology, engineering, and math-related coursework.

“The staff, students, and the school board are excited about welcoming our non-parent supporters,” Thomas said. The village of Lowellville will also provide transportation if needed. Those interested in participating are to call Jennifer Lucido at 330-536-8426.
