Charged in gun buy

WARREN

A Warren man and woman are each facing a federal charge accusing them of lying to a federally licensed gun dealer.

Pamela A. Vincent, 43, and William Roberts, 40, were indicted by a federal grand jury. Roberts is accused of aiding, abetting and counseling Vincent in the acquisition of a Ruger 9 mm pistol from J&D Firearms on Parkman Road Northwest on Oct. 9.

Vincent knowingly made a false written statement intended to deceive J&D Firearms as to the lawfulness of the purchase, according to a press release from Steven M. Dettelbach, U.S. attorney for the northern district of Ohio.

Vincent claimed she was the purchaser of the firearm, when in fact she was purchasing the firearm for another person, Dettelbach said.

Felony purse thefts

NILES

Niles police are searching for a woman who stole purses from Eastwood Mall.

Authorities said the woman stole “high-end” purses from Dillard’s during the past week. Two pictures of her are on the Niles Police Department’s Facebook page and anyone with information on her is asked to call 330-652-9944.

Authorities said Saturday the value of the purses taken is more than $1,000, making it a felony offense.

Polar Plunge season

CORTLAND

Special Olympics Ohio’s 2015 Polar Plunge season kicks off at Mosquito Lake at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Plunge, one of the largest fundraisers for Special Olympics Ohio, will take place Saturdays during January, February and March at locations throughout the state.

Participants obtain monetary pledges and agree to jump or crawl into the frigid waters of an Ohio lake, waterway or the special Polar Plunge pool to earn their pledges.

A less-chilly option to raise money is “Too Chicken to Plunge,” in which participants raise a minimum of $30 to avoid the plunge. Also, teams of “chickens” may support favorite plungers.

A minimum in pledges of $50, $75, or $100, depending on age and location, is required to participate. Information about and links to registration sites for all Polar Plunges are available at sooh.org or by calling 614-239-7050.
