Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge is Jan. 24 in Mosquito Lake
CORTLAND — Special Olympics Ohio’s 2015 Polar Plunge season kicks off at Mosquito Lake at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 24.
Held on Saturdays during January, February, and March at locations throughout the state, the Polar Plunge is one of the largest fund raisers for Special Olympics Ohio.
Plunge participants obtain monetary pledges and agree to jump or crawl into the frigid waters of an Ohio lake, waterway or the special Polar Plunge pool to earn their pledges.
A less-chilly option to raise money is “Too Chicken to Plunge,” where participants raise a minimum of $30 to avoid the plunge. Also, teams of ‘chickens’ may support favorite plungers.
A minimum in pledges of $50, $75, or $100, depending on age and location, is required to participate. Information about and links to registration sites for all Polar Plunges are available at sooh.org or 614-239-7050.
