Quality and value initiative | Recommendations
A Gov. John Kasich-appointed project team led by E. Gordon Gee and Ohio Chancellor John Carey issued a report listing nine recommendations to ensure the state’s colleges and universities provide the most value and quality for students. The recommendations:
1. Ohio college and university leaders should commit to reinventing the student academic advising structure so that its more data-driven.
2. The state should support improved and innovative teaching practices at every level of postsecondary education. We should incentivize and reward faculty, whatever their appointment status, who are reimagining the postsecondary classroom experience.
3. Ohio and its colleges and universities should fully utilize facilities and resources during the summer.
4. The state should adopt standards for professional high-school counselors.
5. Ohio should invest in technologies post-secondary institutions can use for innovative teaching models.
6. Ohio should expand opportunities for student internships, ensuring they provide students with meaningful experiences.
7. Colleges and universities should establish regional organizations with representatives from kindergarten through 12th grade and higher education, businesses and communities.
8. The state should help the schools develop online competency-based degree and certificate programs for working adults.
9. Good governance and strong leadership are at the heart of these recommendations.
