American Girl seeks fashion models

Staff report

BOARDMAN

A series of American Girl Fashion Show events are planned for March 7 and 8 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St., and organizers are seeking models.

About 50 models are needed for each of the four fashion shows and opportunities are open to the public.

For models to wear the clothing provided by American Girl, they must wear a size 10 or 6X. There will be limited opportunities for girls of other sizes to model, but they must purchase their own outfits from a list of pre-approved selections.

Models will be chosen based on poise, confidence and stage presence. Girls must attend one of the model calls to be considered. Times and dates are 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 24.

Model calls will take place in the community room, on the first floor of Building C on the Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley Beeghly Campus, 6505 Market St.

A parent or guardian must accompany prospective models and take with them the completed application form plus a full-length color photo. Materials can be accessed at www.akronchildrens.org/americangirlfashionshow or by calling 330-746-8712.

Models who are selected must be able to attend a fitting Feb. 7 as well as rehearsals Feb. 28 and March 6 in addition to the assigned show time.

There is no fee to audition, but once selected, each girl who wants to be in the show is required to pay a $25 model registration fee, due at the model fitting.

The shows will begin at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day. The Kids’ Crew of Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley are presenting the shows, and proceeds will fund local programs and services of the hospital.

The fashion show is an engaging program that embraces education, fashion and good will, and it can be a memorable experience for families.

Matching outfits for girls and their dolls are featured while the audience enjoys the showcase of historical and contemporary fashions. Historical clothing will feature daywear, sleepwear and special-occasion clothing that resembles what American Girl characters Kaya, Caroline, Josefina, Addy, Samantha, Rebecca, Kit and Julie might have worn.

Contemporary “Just Like You” outfits for older girls and sweet fashions for little ones will complete the program.

The fashion shows also will feature refreshments, party favors, door prizes and raffles of American Girl merchandise. Sponsorship opportunities, program book ads and VIP family tables are available.

Tickets cost $30 per person and can be ordered by calling the above number or visiting the website listed.
