Gas leak on Shields
Gas leak on Shields
CANFIELD
A gas leak led to the evacuation of some residents from their homes for a short time Friday morning.
Firefighters responded to Shields Road about 11:15 a.m. and evacuated houses within a half-mile radius of the leak, near the Revere Run neighborhood, and then cleared the scene and allowed residents back into their houses about 11:50 a.m., fire Chief Don Hutchison said.
A buildup of excess pressure in a gas line caused a release valve to activate, a Dominion East Ohio spokesman said. He said the valve worked as it was supposed to and vented off the excess pressure.
Dominion crews worked to fix the leak Friday afternoon. Service to area homes was not affected and there were no injuries. Dominion said the leak did not pose any danger.

The board previously approved $6,818,686 in temporary appropriations until a permanent 2015 budget is approved.
Township Administrator Michael Dockry said that though it is not required of the township to determine ahead of time how each line item in the budget will be funded, he said it is an extra step he likes to take.
The board also met in executive session to consider the appointment of a public employee.
