Nothing inappropriate led to principal change at Mooney, president says

YOUNGSTOWN

John Young’s departure as principal of Cardinal Mooney High School was a personnel matter but not because of any allegations of anything inappropriate, illegal or immoral, said the Rev. Gerald DeLucia, president of the school.

Father DeLucia said because it’s a personnel matter, he couldn’t divulge any reasons for the change. Mark Vollmer, assistant principal, will serve as the school’s interim principal through the end of the school year.

The change happened Thursday and faculty and staff were notified and a note sent home to parents, informing them of the change.

“At the semester break, the Bishop [George V. Murry] decided to make the change in concert with myself and others,” Father DeLucia said.
