BCMS seventh-grade boys defeat Canfield

The Boardman Center Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team recently moved to the record of 5-1 on the season and 4-1 in the AAC by defeating Canfield on Jan. 7 with a score of 38-23.

Scorers for the Spartans were Charlie Davis (15), Griffin Schantz (8), Derrick Anderson (6), Justin Cina (4), Jimmy Goske (3) and Tyler Peterson (2).

Eighth-grade girls lose to Howland and Canfield

The Boardman Center Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team dropped a pair of games this week. The first game was to Howland 34-17. Maya Stinson led the Spartans in scoring with six points, followed by Alicia Saxton with five points. Ashley Saxton, Adrianna Troutman and Angelina Holzschuh all had two points each. The team also lost to Canfield by the score of 45-15.

Alicia Saxton led the scoring with six point, followed by Ashley Saxton with four points, Cailyn Covan with three point. and Kaia Anderson with two points.

BCMS eighth-grade boys victorious over Canfield

The Boardman Center Middle School eighth-grade boys beat Canfield 36-31 on Jan. 7. Center trailed at halftime by a score of 12-18. Boardman’s defense paved the path to victory by keeping Canfield to 13 points in the second half, including a 4 point third quarter. Bobby Cavalier and Cam Kreps shared high scoring honors with 11 points each, Kreps shot 5-6 from the free throw line.

Mikey Morris and Luke Stauffer added three points each. Brandon Kuehn, Eric Shrilla, Luke Conkey and Tino Arcuri contributed two points each.

BCMS defeats Howland

The Boardman Center Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team improved to 4-1 on the season with a win on the road at Howland on Jan. 5. The final score was 34-33. Scorers for the Spartans were Wrentie Martin (13), Charlie Davis (8), Derrick Anderson (7) and Jimmy Goske (6).

BCMS boys basketball has loss to Howland

The Boardman Center Middle School boys basketball team fell to Howland 32-31 on Jan. 6. Center had a two point lead at halftime and a five point edge with three minutes to go, but couldn’t hold on for the win. Bobby Caviler led the Spartans with eight points and five rebounds. Tino Arcuri added six points and five boards. Cam Kreps and Melvin Neail also added six points each. Joe Ieraci rounded out the scoring with five points.

Freshman girls basketball defeated by Girard

In another close battle, the Boardman freshman Lady Spartans basketball team lost in overtime to Girard by a score of 33-31 on Jan. 5. The Lady Spartans were led by Cassie Stitt with 19 points. Katelynn Sawyer had six points, while Kaylee Sorvillo contributed four points and Carly Amendola added two.

Basketball classic to take place in January

The eighth annual Boys Basketball Classic for fifth- and sixth-grade divisions will take place on Jan. 17 and 18. Teams have a four game guarantee. For more information, contact Doug Dawson at classicsports@zoominternet.net or 330-565-9372.
