Alert Boardman business avoids scam

BOARDMAN

A township business avoided a scam Thursday in which a caller claimed to work for Ohio Edison and demanded money.

The owner of Krakus Polish Deli & Bakery, 7050 Market St., reported to police that a man called the business Thursday and told her she needed to pay her Ohio Edison bill immediately or her electricity would be shut off within an hour, according to a police report.

The owner told police that the business got a similar call in October, and at the time Ohio Edison warned her it was a scam. She did not give the caller any information during either call, she said.

During Thursday's call, she told police that when she asked for the caller's phone number, he gave her the phone number to her business, and when she asked for his location he said he was outside of the building.

The incident is under investigation.
