Tickets remain for Tedx Youngstown

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The second TEDx-Youngstown is a week away from today, and about two- thirds of its tickets have been sold.

This year, 300 tickets were available for the event, and about 100 were left as of Thursday, said Lorilyn Shandor, event curator. “On Jan. 21 and Jan. 22 [Wednesday and Thursday] all remaining tickets will be offered through our rush program. This allows students and adults over 65 to purchase tickets at half price. However, if tickets sell out prior to those days, no additional tickets will be released.”

Tickets are $75 each and available at http://tedxyoungstown.com. The price includes parking and lunch.

Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. with the event starting at 8:30 a.m. next Friday. It will run throughout the day inside the Ford Theater in Bliss Hall at Youngstown State University.

TED — Technology, Entertainment and Design — started in the 1980s and continues as a series of conferences around the world. The “x” means the event is independently organized.

The 14 speakers come from areas of human trafficking, bioethics, alternative protein, 3-D printing and sexual orientation. Each speaker’s talk will range between 10 and 18 minutes. Breaks, after every four to five speakers, will run about 30 minutes.

“The support from the Valley in this second year of TEDxYoungstown has been amazing, both through partnerships and ticket sales. The planning committee is very excited to bring another TED-like event to our community,” Shandor said.
