Pa. hospital shooting suspect says he wants to plead guilty
MEDIA, Pa. (AP) — A man accused of fatally shooting his caseworker and grazing his psychiatrist at a suburban Philadelphia hospital complex now says he wants to plead guilty.
Richard Plotts made the pronouncement while appearing via video feed at a scheduled hearing today in Delaware County Court.
The 49-year-old interrupted public defender Charles Williams and said he had a right to plead guilty.
Williams says he’s working on a psychological evaluation encompassing two decades of Plotts’ medical history and that a plea isn’t likely.
Plotts is charged with murder and other offenses in the July shooting death of 53-year-old Theresa Hunt at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby.
Authorities say psychiatrist Lee Silverman crouched behind a chair, pulled his own gun and wounded Plotts.
Silverman was grazed in the temple and thumb.
