James’ No. 23 leads most popular jersey list

NEW YORK

LeBron James has taken the No. 23 back to the top.

James again leads the NBA’s most popular jersey list, this time in his original Cleveland Cavaliers uniform that he returned to this season.

James tops the list released Monday for the fifth straight season, but it was the No. 6 of the Miami Heat the previous four. He switched back to his first number this summer when he went back to Cleveland, where he played until leaving in 2010.

It’s the first time James’ Cavaliers jersey topped the list since 2004, his rookie season, and the first time the Cavs have been No. 1 on the team merchandise list.

Golden State’s Stephen Curry jumped five spots to No. 2 on the list, which is based on overall sales from adidas and NBAStore.com from October-December, 2014. Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant, the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant and Chicago’s Derrick Rose rounded out the top five.

Reed rallies to win Kapalua in a playoff

KAPALUA, Hawaii

Patrick Reed holed an 80-yard shot for eagle and made two birdies over his last four holes Monday. The last birdie was on the 18th hole in a playoff to beat Jimmy Walker in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

Reed was four shots behind with four holes to play when he put together his big rally and closed with a 6-under 67.

For the second straight day, Walker went seven straight holes without a birdie on the back nine. He had a chance to win in regulation but missed his birdie putt from 18 feet and shot 69.

In the playoff, Walker had an advantage until he chipped from below the bleachers over the green. Reed hit wedge to 18 feet and holed it for his fourth career win.
