Talmer collecting soup for food bank

Talmer Bank and Trust and Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley are teaming up to help dropkick hunger in the Mahoning Valley with their annual “Become a Soup Bowl Star” program.

Donations of canned soup can be dropped off at any Talmer Bank and Trust location today through Jan. 30. Talmer Bank and Trust employees will also spend time at Second Harvest to box up the soup for delivery to the food bank’s 153 local food distribution organizations.

After the holidays, donations to Second Harvest tend to fall off dramatically. Talmer Bank and Trust wants to help solve this problem by filling bowls with hot soup for our neighbors, said Mark Wenick, Talmer Bank Mahoning Valley Region president.

During the two-week canned soup drive in January 2014, the bank collected 4,159 cans of soup that provided more than 1,700 meals to local families.
