Pizza lovers can sign up for a pizza-eating contest that will take place during the Warren Rotary Club’s “Slice of the Valley” pizza challenge Jan. 17 at the Eastwood Expo Center.

To register for the contest, sponsored by Pizza Works, Howland, go to the event website, www.SliceOfTheValley.com, or call 330-369-1192.

The pizza challenge runs from 4:30 to 8 p.m., and the eating contest is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The winner will receive a trophy and a cash prize.

The number of area eateries vying in the pizza challenge has reached 18.

Angels for Animals plans birthday bash

CANFIELD

Angels for Animals is planning the annual birthday bash from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 17 at Andrews Hall, 4750 W. South Range Road, for Diane Less, co-founder of the organization.

The event includes a variety of lasagna dishes, soup and salads along with a cash wine bar and a 50-50 and basket raffle.

Admission is $10 at the door for all you can eat; bar not included. All proceeds benefit Angels For Animals shelter.

Preschool Playtime planned at library

SALEM

Each month, Salem Public Library has Preschool Playtime for kids age 2-5 who haven’t gone to kindergarten. They will experience music, games, toys and activities.

Kids must be accompanied by a caregiver for this time to socialize, make new friends, explore the library, improve gross and fine motor skills and have fun.

The next session will begin at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 26 in the Children’s Department. No registration is required for this free program. Stop by Salem Public Library at 821 E. State St. or call 330-332-0042, option 4, for information.

YMCA will offer financial recovery aid

The YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave., has scheduled a financial recovery workshop from noon to 1 p.m. Jan. 22.

Experts from Huntington Bank will show participants steps they can take to recover financially and rebuild their credit after experiencing a financial setback. By the end of the session, participants will be able to assess their current financial situation, Identify ways to increase income, decrease and prioritize expenses, develop a financial recovery plan identify steps to successfully implement a financial recovery plan and recognize how to guard against credit repair scams.
