BACKGROUND
Education: Graduated from Chaney High School in 1939.
Employment: Was a design draftsman for U.S. Steel Ohio Works before retiring in 1978.
Military service: Enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps after graduation from high school and trained in Chanute Field, Ill., as an aviation mock-up developer. He later was stationed at Keesler Field Air Base in Biloxi, Miss., then deployed to the Pacific Theater of Operation until the end of World War II.

Personality/lifestyle: He has always been proud of his Irish heritage and roots in the Mahoning Valley. He is the great-great grandson of Youngstown pioneers Jane (McLain) and Daniel Shehy. He was born and lived in the family home on Shehy Street on the East Side of Youngstown until his parents moved to the West Side. He also is proud of his architectural work. Homes that he designed still stand in Youngstown, Boardman, Poland and Pittsburgh. After retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively and spent about 20 years sharing their time between their home here and one on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.
