Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor of the Ohio Supreme Court will speak at today’s retirement dinner in honor of Judge Joseph J. Vukovich of the 7th District Court of Appeals.

The chief justice will speak at 8 p.m. at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center, 7440 South Ave.

After 18 years on the bench, Judge Vukovich chose not to run for a fourth six-year term in November’s general election. His term expires Feb. 8.

Bank robbery

Township police are looking for a man they say robbed a bank on South Avenue on Friday afternoon.

Police say a man entered Huntington Bank, at 7235 South Ave., about 4:30 p.m., showed the bank teller a gun and a note with a demand, and then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police still were out searching for the suspect at press time. Police say they have an unverified tip that the man might be driving a gray Chevrolet Impala. Anyone with information should call the police department at 330-726-4144.

Swearing-in set

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning County Probate Judge Robert Rusu Jr. will administer the oath of office to his appointments to the Mill Creek MetroParks Board of Park Commissioners at 6 p.m. Monday before a board meeting.

John Ragan of Canfield is being re-appointed to the board. He has been a commissioner since 2010. Judge Rusu also has appointed Scott Schulick of Youngstown as a new board member. Both appointments are for three-year terms that began Jan. 1.

The ceremony and meeting will be at the MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road in Canfield.

Facing gun charge

YOUNGSTOWN

Police say a Boardman woman was arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon about 9 a.m. Thursday after security at city hall found a loaded .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun in her purse when she went through a metal detector.

Brandy Robinson, 25, of Glendale Avenue was taken to the Mahoning County jail after the gun was found, reports said. Reports said Robinson did not have a concealed-carry permit for the handgun.

Drug conspiracy

PITTSBURGH

A Warren man has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison in a cocaine- distribution conspiracy that operated between January 2011 and June 2012. Allan Williams, 40, will be on three years’ supervised release after prison.

Williams was among 20 defendants who pleaded guilty in a large-scale cocaine conspiracy between Warren and Washington, Pa., the U.S. attorney said.

The same investigation also resulted in guilty pleas from 10 defendants in a large-scale heroin conspiracy between Detroit and Washington, Pa., the U.S. attorney said.

Commissioners vote

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning County commissioners Friday elected Anthony Traficanti as board president and Carol Rimedio- Righetti as board vice president for 2015.
