Authorities say they found two bodies in a car pulled from a frozen pond in eastern Ohio.
A crew used a crane to remove the car from the pond in Zanesville on Friday, a day after a witness reported that it left the roadway and plunged into the water. By the time rescuers arrived, ice already had reformed where the vehicle entered the pond.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the dead as 26-year-old Ashley Orwig and 32-year-old Dustin Miller, according to the Zanesville Times Recorder. The car, a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire, belonged to Orwig’s mother. Miller was Orwig’s boyfriend.
The search began Thursday, but extremely low temperatures hampered the effort. The car was found in water 30 to 50 feet deep.
