POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Jan. 3

Animal complaint: Police responded to a report of a dog continually barking in the 5700 block of Beechwood Drive.

BOARDMAN

Jan. 1

Theft: A man stole a $10 cassette adapter from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Domestic violence: Paul F. Theisler Jr., 63, and Riley B. Plavka, 19, both of Turnberry Drive, Boardman, were charged with the crime after each alleged having been punched by the other during a struggle. Theisler was briefly knocked unconscious, a report showed.

Harassment: A Shields Road man alleged his former roommate sent text messages containing threats to damage the accuser’s vehicle.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop near Midlothian Boulevard resulted in the arrest of 67-year-old Melvin D. Johnson on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after officers alleged Johnson, of Hillman Way, Boardman, had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe with drug residue.

Domestic violence: Police charged 34-year-old Reanna Hardy of Sugarcane Drive, Boardman, after her husband alleged Hardy had swung and clawed at him during an argument pertaining to their relationship. The accuser had several scratches on his face, a report said.

Theft: Police accused a 12-year-old Youngstown girl of stealing eight fashion rings valued at $304 from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.

Theft: Karen S. McCormack, 66, of East South Range Road, New Springfield, was charged with taking $29 worth of undergarments from Walmart.

Theft by deception: Authorities charged 20-year-old Jamal A. Thomas and 26-year-old Tylon J. King with one misdemeanor count each of criminal simulation and theft by deception. The two Euclid, Ohio, men were accused of using counterfeit money, including four phony $100 bills, to buy merchandise at Toys “R” Us, 317 Boardman-Poland Road.

Jan. 2

Aggravated menacing: A Youngstown woman told police her former boyfriend threatened to kill her while she was at Southern Park Mall.

Arrest: Police arrested 24-year-old Jazzalynn B. Fears after having conducted a vehicle check in the 4100 block of South Avenue. Fears, of Birch Trail, Austintown, was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Menacing: A Lockwood Boulevard man said a caller threatened him with bodily harm.

Burglary: To a residence in the 90 block of MacArthur Road after someone forced open a side door. Nothing appeared to be missing, however, police said.

Impersonation: A woman reported that while driving on Indianola Road, a man claiming to represent the U.S. Department of Homeland Security pulled her over, supposedly for speeding, which drew her suspicions. A short time later, a township officer told the woman the DHS does not enforce traffic laws, a police report showed.

Menacing: A Shields Road woman said her former boyfriend has sent and made unwanted text messages and calls to her, and that he has driven past her residence several times and honked his horn.

Burglary: Took place in the 7900 block of Walnut Street via forced entry. An $880 diamond ring was stolen.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a vacant residence in the 80 block of Prestwick Drive, damaged a bathroom sink and removed roughly $3,000 worth of copper piping.

Domestic violence: Officers charged Julia A. West of West Boulevard, Boardman, after her mother alleged the 42-year-old West had shoved her during an argument, causing her to fall backward on the garage floor.

Fraud: A woman told authorities a man in his early 20s came to her Yarmouth Lane home inquiring about whether work needed to be done before she gave him $50 for supplies and he never returned. Also, the accuser discovered two car keys missing.

Stolen property: Authorities conducted a vehicle license-plate check on South Avenue, then charged 22-year-old Clarissa G. Luckey of Cameron Avenue, Youngstown, with receiving stolen property after saying the check revealed the 2003 Cadillac Seville had been stolen Dec. 25, 2014, in Niles.

Jan. 3

Theft: A North Lima woman noticed her debit/credit card missing while at an East Western Reserve Road gas station.

Theft: A New Middletown woman reported her $600 smartphone stolen while at a store in Shops at Boardman Park.

Burglary: Occurred in the 20 block of Beechwood Drive through a side door. Stolen were $890, a personal check and about 20 bank checks.

Breaking and entering: Someone smashed a front window, entered Ynot Wireless, 703 E. Midlothian Blvd., and took several cellphones.

Theft: A 16-year-old Youngstown boy was accused of taking a $200 leather jacket from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.

Menacing: A Simon Road man told police someone posted a Facebook message threatening to shoot him.

Theft: A man took a portable battery set and a knife set from Walmart before fleeing in a red 2002 Honda vehicle.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Hitchcock Road man alleged his girlfriend took his 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck without permission.

Jan. 4

Theft/criminal damaging: Two vehicles were entered at a McClurg Road business. Several credit cards, a purse and money were among items stolen.

Criminal mischief: An egg was tossed at a home in the 100 block of Creston Drive.

Theft: A Struthers girl, 15, was accused of stealing 15 articles of clothing and pieces of jewelry from Walmart.

Theft/criminal damaging: Three cars in Boardman Park were broken into. Property stolen included purses, money and credit cards.

Theft: A man stole a $449 Xbox game system from Walmart.

Jan. 5

Arrest: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail booked 26-year-old Deandre L. Fant via phone on a charge of obstructing official business. Fant, of Detroit Avenue, Youngstown, was accused of fleeing on foot from officers during a July 30, 2014, traffic stop on East Midlothian Boulevard.

Bad checks: Police picked up 63-year-old Alicia Barnett at her Pointview Avenue home. The Youngstown woman was wanted on a felony township warrant charging her with passing bad checks.

Threats: An employee with a South Avenue home health care agency reported the son of a client threatened to shoot up the business after having been angered about the mother’s care.

Theft: Several juveniles reportedly stole nearly $43 worth of assorted merchandise from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Theft/criminal damaging: Two vehicles in the 5000 block of Forest Park Place were broken into before a stereo and other items were removed.

Harassment: A man reportedly came to and disrupted some workers at a McClurg Road business, apparently in an effort to contact his former girlfriend. The business also received four or five unwanted calls, a police report stated.

Misuse of a credit card: An Arden Boulevard woman learned her stolen credit/debit card had been used without authorization to withdraw $200.
