BOARDMAN
Township officials are investigating a fire that broke out at a township apartment Wednesday as an aggravated arson.
Firefighters and police officers responded to 1989 Wolosyn Circle after calls came in about a fire and a man jumping from a third-story window. Police say the man, the apartment’s tenant, jumped from the window to escape the fire.
The landlord told police he has had problems with the tenant recently, according to a police report.
Fire officials discovered several incendiary devices placed throughout the apartment, such as liquor bottles with paper and cloth stuffed into them. The apartment door also was barricaded from within, according to the report.

Electrical short
POLAND
Fire officials believe they know the cause of the fire that broke out at The Old Stone Tavern in the village on Wednesday.
“We believe that it was an electrical short caused by a burst pipe,” said Western Reserve Joint Fire District Chief David “Chip” Comstock Jr.
Firefighters from Poland, Springfield, New Middletown and Boardman responded about 5 p.m. Wednesday to a fire on the second floor of the more than 200-year-old building, Poland’s oldest, 121 S. Main St.
Fire officials say the fire started in a bathroom in a residential part of the building, then spread to the attic. Several people evacuated without incident, Comstock said.
