Bowling teams have mixed results against Perry
The Boardman varsity boys bowling team fell to Perry 2674-2639 on Dec. 23. Jake Wagner led the Boardman team with scores of 222 and 191. Nick Tancabel added a 213 while Nick Christmas contributed a 209 game. Boardman’s varsity girls team fell to Perry 2477-2330. Alexis Grim led all scoring with games of 193 and 223. Myranda Bukovinsky had scores of 200 and 198. The Boardman junior varsity boys defeated Perry 2677-2281. Michael Parise led the way with scores of 211 and 238. Cody Creque (221), Chase Felger (214) and Ben Burkey (211) contributed to the Spartan effort.
Freshman girls move to 3-0
The Boardman girls freshman basketball team extended their record to 3-0 after defeating Beaver Local on Dec. 20 with a score of 40-16. After a close first half, the Spartans were able to control the second half, dominating the Beavers 26-4. Leading the Spartans was Cassie Stitt scoring 12 points, followed by Kaylee Sorvillo with eight and Riley Zawrotuk with seven.
Bowling teams defeat Struthers
The Boardman boys varsity bowling team defeated the Struthers Wildcats 2722-2595 on Dec. 16. Nick Tancabel led the way with a 268 game, while Jason Babnic had the top series with a 482 (235-237). Kevin Hynes added a 221 while Nick Christmas rolled a 215. Boardman’s Lady Spartans team topped the Lady Wildcats 2027-1624. Alexis Grim led all scorers with two games of 172. Gloria Hynes had the high game of 174. The Spartan Junior Varsity Boys team (3-2) defeated the Wildcats 2336-1610. Bobby Morrell had the high individual score of 266. Sean Sullivan rolled games of 209 and 190.
Boardman bowling defeats Warren
Boardman’s boys varsity bowling team remained undefeated in conference play on Dec. 18, winning by a score of 2712 to 2526 over the Warren Harding Raiders. Boardman was led by Jason Babnic (215, 235), Nick Tancabel (213, 211), Nick Christmas 255 and Kevin Hynes 245. The Lady Spartans fell to the Lady Raiders 2030-1991. The Lady Spartans were led by Alexis Grim (196-180), Gloria Hynes (192) and Taylor Krepps (161). Boardman’s junior varsity squad topped Harding 2220-1754. Michael Parise led all scorers with games of 188 and 182. Nathan Needham (181), Bobby Morrell (180) and Cody Creque (179) contributed to the Spartans cause.
Center girls defeat West Branch
The Boardman Center eighth-grade girls basketball team defeated West Branch 23-20. Alicia Saxton led the scoring with seven points, followed by Ashley Saxton with six points. Kaia Anderson and Jersey Gorby had three points each, and Cailyn Covan and Ali Kuras had two points each.
Basketball classic to take place in January
The eighth annual Boys Basketball Classic for fifth- and sixth-grade divisions will take place on Jan. 10, 11, 17 and 18. Teams have a four game guarantee. For more information, contact Doug Dawson at classicsports@zoominternet.net or 330-565-9372.

The weather is getting colder and it’s now winter sports season. Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a winter sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in.
