Girl reports assault

WARREN

Trumbull County Children Services and the Warren Police Department still are trying to sort out the details of a reported assault on a 14-year-old girl who ran into a West Market Street business at 11 p.m. Monday seeking help.

The girl was barefoot, bleeding and wearing little clothing in weather that was in the teens, police said. She was taken by ambulance to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

The girl said her father beat her up after finding out she had sneaked a boy into her bedroom.

An officer said the girl had a split lip and marks on her face and neck, as well as welts and scratches on her arm. Her feet were red and swollen.

Police talked to the girl’s father at his house on nearby Nevada Avenue Northwest, and he admitted he and the girl had a physical confrontation, but he denied assaulting her.

Police recognition day

The National Police Memorial Foundation, along with the Concerns of Police Survivors and law enforcement nationwide, have established Friday as National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day to recognize the duties and dangers of being a police officer.

More than 58,000 officers are assaulted annually nationwide.

In 2014, 118 officers were killed in the line of duty.

Members of the community are asked to show support for law enforcement by thanking a police officer, wearing blue clothing, displaying a blue outside light, or sending cards of support to local police.

Ex-trustee files suit

WARREN

Donald Urchek, former Bazetta Township trustee, has filed suit in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court seeking at least $1,700 plus attorneys fees from the current board for health-insurance coverage he says the township failed to provide in 2013.

Urchek, of Lakeshore Drive, was trustee until Jan. 1, 2014. Urchek’s lawsuit said he began using a part of the township’s health-insurance program in 2013 after the unexpected termination of his previous health care plan.

Contrary to Ohio and U.S. law, however, he was not able to use the full program offered to other township employees, which resulted in damages of $1,700, the lawsuit says.
