Western Pa. Humane Society probing deaths of dogs found in dumpster

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society has been trying to find whoever left three dogs in a Pittsburgh dumpster.

A woman taking out the trash heard whimpering and found the dogs Dec. 30. The mother and one pup were dead, but two nine-week-old puppies were still alive.

The woman cared for the puppies before bringing them to the Humane Society on Monday. One dog has since been adopted by a family.

The dogs are a pit bull mix.

Humane Society officials tried to recover the bodies of the other two dogs to help their investigation, but the dumpster had been emptied by the time they examined it.

The shelter’s spokeswoman, Kristen Lane, says the dogs are “in remarkably good health” considering the circumstances.
