Pilot dog stolen

A sight-impaired Columbiana County woman believes someone may have taken her pilot dog and is asking for help in finding her. According to Vindicator broadcast partner WFMJ-TV 21, Janet Armstrong, 73, let Kerry, her black Labrador retriever, out Monday and the dog didn’t return. “Called, and called and called and there was no response,” Armstrong told 21 News. “And normally in that situation she would come home, she would come running.” Anyone with information to help locate Kerry is asked to call the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Department.

Pedestrian killed

YOUNGSTOWN

City police are investigating a Tuesday evening traffic accident that killed a female pedestrian. The accident occurred at Mabel and Gibson streets on the South Side and involved a city wastewater department vehicle, police said. Police told WFMJ-TV 21 that the woman was about 50 and was struck by a second vehicle which left the scene. No further information was available before press time.

Cars burn in barn fire

AUSTINTOWN

Austintown firefighters and other departments spent much of Tuesday morning fighting a barn fire. Township fire crews were called to the 5400 block of Lou Ida Drive at 11 a.m. for a garage fire. Weathersfield Township firefighters assisted in the blaze of the two-story barn, which contained classic cars. Crews used a foam fire retardant on the blaze due to flammable objects stored in the barn, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV.

Sought in robbery

CAMPBELL

Federal and local officers searched in the city Tuesday for a man wanted in a Boardman robbery. Sgt. Glenn Riddle, a Boardman officer who works with the U.S. Marshal Task Force, told Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV that Daryle Brown is a career criminal. Brown, 59, is believed to be armed. He’s wanted on a robbery charge at the Boardman Kmart last month. “We had info he was driving a stolen car, tracked it through OnStar and we went to stop it, and it took off,” Riddle told WFMJ. Police arrested driver Candice Bacher, 31, and two 16-year-olds. Bacher will be charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and obstructing official business. If anyone sees Brown or knows of his whereabouts, they are asked to call Campbell police at 330-755-1411.

Arrest in murder

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Pennsylvania State Police arrested Joseph Anthony Markijohn II, 26, of Ashtabula, Ohio, in the Dec. 28 shooting death of a Neshannock Township man. Markijohn was charged Tuesday with criminal homicide, robbery, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property in the death of Joseph Charles Pagley III, 25, who was found dead in his township residence at 3 Kenneth Ave. by acquaintances, who had been unable to contact him.

State police said there was no sign of forced entry. Markijohn is in the Ashtabula County jail on drug-trafficking charges stemming from this investigation, police said.
