Person killed as task force serves warrant in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police say a person was fatally shot by a law enforcement officer when a U.S. marshal’s-led fugitive task force went to a home to serve an arrest warrant.

The U.S. Marshal’s Office in Pittsburgh says officials remain at the scene and are unavailable for comment. The Marshal’s Office heads a fugitive task force that includes state and city police, sheriff’s deputies and probation and parole officers.

City police spokeswoman Sonya Toler says Pittsburgh officers were not involved in the shooting early today, but are responsible for investigating it.

She confirmed only that someone was fatally shot by a law enforcement officer.

A federal law enforcement official says the person shot was wanted on a child sexual assault complaint. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is being headed by city police.
