Mayor: Missing Pa. college student’s death ruled accidental

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia’s mayor says the death of a college student who disappeared on Thanksgiving after a night out with friends has been ruled accidental.

Mayor Michael Nutter said today the results of other testing on 21-year-old Shane Montgomery’s body have not come back yet.

The West Chester University student’s family watched Saturday as a search crew pulled his body from the Schuylkill river near a brew pub in the city’s Manayunk section.

Karen Montgomery, Shane’s mother, says the family has done what it promised: found Shane and brought him home.

Shane, a senior at West Chester, had been out with friends until about 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning and never made it home.

Nutter says the city will look into improving safety along the waterfront near where Montgomery’s body was found.
