Police: Kids fight at movie theater

VALLEY VIEW, Ohio

Police say they had to break up fights inside and outside a Northeast Ohio movie theater in disturbances that also led some nearby restaurants to lock their doors.

Chief Matthew March of the Valley View police department in suburban Cleveland says between 200 and 300 juveniles were inside Cinemark Theater on Friday night when fights began to break out in the restaurant area.

March told WEWS-TV that after security moved the juveniles outside, theater managers refunded money to individuals who had tickets.

March said several different fights then started in different areas. He said police asked people in nearby restaurants to stay inside, while some restaurants locked their doors.

March said Saturday about 40 officers from various agencies responded and broke up the crowd with verbal commands. There were no injuries or property damage reported, and no arrests.

Two girls and a boy were detained briefly, then turned over to parents or guardians, March said. There’s no indication the event was planned, he added.

“All evidence suggests that the incident began with a fight between two individuals, triggering the disorderly behavior of the mostly juvenile crowd,” March said in a statement.
