New Castle Community YMCA cuts its rates
Staff report
NEW CASTLE, PA.
The New Castle Community YMCA has cut its monthly membership rates. The move took place Jan. 1.
The new monthly rate for adults will be $29 and $49 for families. This is a $12 decrease per month for both categories.
“Given our current economy, our mission and our desire to make the Y accessible to absolutely everyone, we are lowering our adult and family membership rates,” said Dick Lyons, the Y’s CEO. “The Y will continue to offer financial assistance to our neighbors who cannot afford a membership. In 2014, we provided over $300,000 in financial assistance.”
“With the help of a market-research company, we learned that over time, our prices were not as affordable to everyone,” said Louis Merryman, chairman of the Y’s membership committee. “Our neighbors in the New Castle area want membership access to the Y and its programs and services, but they want it at a reasonable price.”
The Y will offer two “open-to-all” open houses — at the Y-Zone, 428 Eleanor Drive, from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 17, and another at the YMCA Downtown, 20 W. Washington St., from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 18. The Y will waive the joiner fee for the entire month of January, a savings of $50 to $124.
The open houses will include a tour and trial of the facilities. Call the Y’s membership director at 724-658-4766 to schedule a wellness consultation.
