Top 5 grossing Broadway shows of 2014

Here are the top-five grossing Broadway shows of 2014, as reported by the Broadway League (total box-office gross follows):

v “The Lion King”: $95.1 million

v “Wicked”: $89.8 million

v “The Book of Mormon”: $82.7 million

v “Kinky Boots”: $65.9 million

v “Aladdin”: $55.5 million

“Galavant” (8 p.m., ABC): The Middle Ages get the song and dance treatment in this amusing, over-the-top limited series.

“Oprah Prime” (9 p.m., OWN): This special looks at Dr. King and the Selma marches 50 years later.

“Downton Abbey” (9 p.m., PBS): “The nature of life is not permanence, but flux.” So says wise ol’ Mr. Carson as the beloved period soap returns for what looks to be a season of tremendous change. It’s 1924, and Lady Mary appears ready to embrace a romantic suitor. Meanwhile, her upper-crust parents are preparing for an eventful 34th anniversary celebration, and there are new secrets and new loves in the offing. Still, after four seasons, one question continues to plague us: Will the writers ever give poor Edith a bloody break?

“The Celebrity Apprentice” (9 p.m., NBC): “The Celebrity Apprentice” returns with 16 famous — or formerly famous — people who are painfully desperate to grab some camera time. Don’t feel bad if you have to Google their names.

“Life Itself” (9 p.m., CNN): We give a big thumbs-up to “Life Itself,” a highly intimate documentary about the late film critic Roger Ebert. Presented with incredible candor, it tells of his early days as a booze hound, his late-life romance, his heated rivalry with fellow critic Gene Siskel and his brutal battle with cancer.
