Police are investigating how a critically injured man ended up undetected in a crashed vehicle hours after it was towed from a New Year’s Day accident.

The unidentified man was taken to a Dayton hospital for treatment of apparent leg injuries.

Capt. Jeremy Roy of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office tells the Dayton Daily News a tow yard worker opened the front door of the crashed vehicle to throw remaining debris inside when the man yelled for help from the front floorboard

Roy says deputies and rescue workers searched in and around the vehicle after the 3 a.m. New Year’s Day crash but couldn’t find the driver.
