Blessing of waters

YOUNGSTOWN

The Eastern Orthodox Clergy Association of Mahoning Valley will bless the waters at 3 p.m. Tuesday on the shoreline at Lake Glacier in Mill Creek MetroParks. Take the Glenwood Avenue entrance to the park to the parking lot by the lake.

The prayer service marks the Feast of Holy Theophany, the baptism of Jesus. In the Western Church, Jan. 6 marks the day when the Magi (Three Wise Men) visited baby Jesus and is the 12th day of Christmas.

Orthodox Christmas

Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, 53 Laird Ave., will observe Christmas Eve Matins and blessing of the yule log at 6 p.m. Tuesday; Christmas Day Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. Wednesday; and Holy Apostle, Protomartyr and Archdeacon Stephen Divine Liturgy at 9 a.m. Friday.

Groening lecture

The Bruno Groening Circle of Friends will have a 90-minute lecture featuring Arlene Barkan, leader of the Youngstown and Cleveland Communities, and Internet Children’s Community of North America at 6 p.m. Thursday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St. A short documentary film will be shown. Admission is free.

The Circle of Friends is not affiliated with Lord of Life Lutheran Church or any other religion. Bruno Groening (1906-59) was a German healer who taught about the power of faith in overcoming disease. The Circle of Friends passes on his teachings through information lectures.
