WARREN

Police are investigating a New Year’s Day assault on a 34-year-old Front Street Southwest woman that resulted in her having a fracture around her eye, which was swollen shut, and other bruising on her face and neck.

The woman told police her boyfriend punched her in the face while they were driving on Highland Avenue near Front Street at 2:50 a.m. Thursday.

The woman said the man took her cellphone so she couldn’t call anyone. He took her to his mother’s house. She later went to her own mother’s house, where she was given her phone back.

From there, she was taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Her neck also had numerous bruises and hand prints, and she had a small cut on one eyelid, police said.

Facing charges

BELOIT

A Beloit man faces a court hearing later this month, charged with crimes against children.

According to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV, a West Branch student alerted police in early 2014 about the alleged crime. After an investigation, Goshen Township police charged Douglas Miner, 41, of West Middletown Road, with 16 counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor and tampering with evidence.

A Mahoning County grand jury indicted Miner on the charges earlier this week.

Police say Miner recorded a juvenile girl and later tried to conceal the evidence on electronic devices, the television station reported.
